Severe Reglan side effects Tardive Dyskinesia, Tardive Dystonia may be permanent

reglan efectsPersons who have used Reglan or metoclopramide to aid gastrointestinal maladies or to stem nausea or vomiting may then suffer from numerous possibly risky or dangerous symptoms or side effects, including a condition called Tardive Dyskinesia.

That condition produces involuntary muscle movements such as  jerking or twitching of the face, arms, hands, legs or feet. More side effects include depression, convulsions or anxiety. Tragically, TD has no known treatment or cure. In fact, some victims have  had debilitating Tardive Dyskinesia for nearly 30 years, or since  they initially took a Reglan medication when it reached the market in the early 1980s.

Studies indicate that patients who use metoclopramide in brand-name drugs such as Reglan, Maxolon or Octamide on a long-term basis have a 29 per cent chance of being afflicted with Tardive Dyskinesia. Then, once they've suffered the condition, there's virtually a 100 per cent chance that they will suffer from it for the rest of their lives.

Some Reglan users also suffer a defective drug side effect known as Tardive Dystonia. This condition involves painful and involuntary contractions, spasms and contortions of specific muscles, often around the face, neck, eyes, legs or arms.

But it even can get worse. Another suspected metoclopramide side effect is Neuropleptic Malignant Syndrome, which can be fatal. A life-threatening neurological disorder caused by pharmaceutical drugs, Neuropleptic Malignant Syndrome can cause fever, delirium and rigid muscles, and it can be fatal for some sufferers.

Reglan-produced Tardive Dyskinesia is debilitating for life

Patients taking defective drug Reglan who then suffer from Tardive Dyskinesia may find themselves twitching and jerking involuntarily as a result. Such debilitating injury can occur after having taken the defective drug for only a short time, or after taking it long term. In either case, the Reglan side effects may not show up until after the patient has stopped taking the defective drug.

These patients' involuntary muscle movements may include twitching or other muscle movements involving the legs, arms, toes, fingers, feet, hands, shoulders and trunk. Sufferers also may have trouble swallowing or breathing, as well as walking and talking.

Other Reglan side effects can include involuntary puckering, pursing and smacking of the lips; blinking and rapid eye movement; jerking of the head or grimacing of the face; and thrusting of the tongue. Victims may find themselves unable to sit still and to keep various muscles throughout their body from moving.
